1 Degree of Change

Our therapist at ERC has talked several times about 1 degree of change.  We find one single positive thing that we can see as a change and build from that.  1 degree added up over time can make big changes.  A friend has told me this is part of EFFT which I know is a therapy regularly used with ED patients.  Veritas primarily focused on DBT so I’m interested in learning more about EFFT and how we can use that to help our daughter.  I also think 1 degree of change can apply to so much more.  I am usually a big picture person.  I can often get overwhelmed because the big picture seems too big.  But focusing on one small change I can make that works towards the big picture.  That seems doable.  A daughter of one of my friends recently went to a Madam President Camp.  She posted about how much growth she saw in her 11-year-old daughter just in the week she spent at camp.  She had new goals and dreams.  She had ways she could individually make a difference.  Changes she could make and/or create within our own community.  I think this very much fits with the 1 degree of change mindset.  I might not change the world over night.  But I can make a difference one degree at a time.
