Fruit is Not a Snack

I’ve read a lot.  People say regularly a bad facility can make the ED worse.  ERC, Dallas, is supposed to be one of the best.  However, it all makes a difference who your team is.  Our team is very, very, very new.  And inexperienced.  Our dietician this week tried to make her AM snack fruit.  She’s working on her maintenance plan.  First, she’s a growing 12-year-old that hasn’t even started to think about going through puberty yet, she doesn’t need to maintain.  She’s going to need to constantly gain, for a long time.  Second, fruit is not a snack.  Not for a sick kid with a very stubborn and strong ED.  So I called her.  We need to either remove AM snack and make the other two snacks bigger to compensate, or we need to change AM snack back to food.  If she even thinks snack is a fruit, she’s going to work to change her other two snacks to fruit.  That is how this works, you give them an inch, and they take 50 miles.  Her dietician was like oh, I see what you mean.  And we changed it back to food.  However, if I had not advocated for this, if I didn’t know better than the dietician, we would already be on a super slippery slope to restriction.  Started while in PHP.
