Hospital Stay 8, The One Where they are Finished with Us

So we were in the hospital, again.  But this time was different.  We actually saw the “on-call” ED doctor on Saturday and Sunday.  Typically no one comes by on the weekend other than the hospitalist.  Which would have been just fine in this case as this doctor was very old, couldn’t hear and was of no help.  She asked Carrigan why she kept coming back.  She asked me what my plan was.  Last I checked you were the medical professional, and you should help with a plan and/or recommendations.  But she told me the “team” would be by on Monday.  So, I didn’t say anything.  I would see Amanda and Emily on Monday and talk to them and get their thoughts on what they thought we should do next.  Boy oh boy was I wrong.  Amanda called on Monday.  She wasn’t going to make it around to see her (however my daughter saw them both on our floor), but she would be by on Tuesday.  So imagine my surprise when first thing Tuesday morning the nurse comes in and says did you know you were being discharged.  Um, no.  We haven’t even seen a doctor, neither the hospitalist nor the ED team.  So the nurse went to check with the hospitalist, she said ED would be around, then update the orders then we could leave.  2 hours later, and guess what, they never came.  Finally, our nurse called the hospitalist, and she said yes, they didn’t have anything to add, they can go.  So, we left, without seeing a single doctor.  Without talking to anyone about future plans.  I feel like they have completely given up on my daughter.  I know her ED is difficult.  I know her ED is strong.  But I also know I can’t give up on her like professional after professional has done.  What do I do next.  I’m going to start researching other hospitals to see if there is some where else I can take her next time.  Because I know there will be a next time.  I hope there isn’t.  But I’m also too realistic for that.  I’m also in the middle of looking at other residential programs, but there will be another post on that later.
