First Increase

So last Wednesday we saw the doctor.  She pretty much said she should send her back to treatment based on how much weight she’s lost since discharge, but she was going to give her a week to maintain and show us she could do it.  I knew she had been restricting.  I didn’t know how much.  She was down to 2 egg whites a day.  When she starts restricting we have never been successful in increasing it back up at home.  It has always ended in a trip to the hospital.  But she did it.  She took the threat seriously and has increased to 3 “meals”.  Now they aren’t adequate meals, but they are meals none the less.  And they are definitely more than 2 egg whites.  So hopefully when we go back tomorrow, she won’t have lost as much and they will tell her to increase again.  And she knows that if they tell her to increase again, she’s going to have to do it.  So maybe.  She’s still very active in her eating disorder.  But maybe she can stay home for 6 months with no hospital or residential visit.   That would be amazing!!  Easter was a hard day for her.  She told me she really struggled.  We talked about how she would have hard days and the next day would be a new day.  I also asked her how I could support her when she has a hard day.  She didn’t know, but I told her if she came up with anything to let me know.  The open dialogue about the hard days is also reassuring to me.  So we’ll see.  Only time will tell.
