Stubborn

Stubborn is an understatement.  She went to the hospital this last time.  Well back up.  She was on a feeding tube, continuous pump getting 3500 calories of ensure.  Allegedly.  At her doctor apt on Monday her heart rate was up, her blood pressure was low, and she had lost 3 pounds.  She had been having diarrhea for a few days so they were afraid that was the cause.  They sent her to the ER for fluids and to see if she improved.  At the ER they checked her blood sugar and it was 43 so that got her admitted immediately.  As she was only doing tube feeds at home they wanted to keep her on tube feeds at the hospital to see how she would tolerate them and if that was the cause for the diarrhea and if we needed to change formula.  Nope.  She’s not doing tube feeds at the hospital.  She will eat food.  Nope.  We aren’t letting you have food.  Day 1, the stand off started.  They took her blood sugar every 2 hours and if it was low she had to drink 3 ounces of powerade.  This was all day and all night.  Day 2, came.  She was going to do the blood sugar checks and powerade again.  Then the hospital caved and put her back on a meal plan with food.  I am 100% positive she would have never caved.  It’s just so frustrating because at what point is getting her to eat something better than nothing?  That’s where the struggle seems to be and she can stand out longer than anyone else will let her.
